The use of advanced technology in reverse engineering is gaining serious momentum and we are staring to see true innovation. But ultimately, what matters is how you use it and the benefits your organisation can squeeze from it. To help you on your path we start off with a guide to the diverse types of hardware available – from digitising arms to laser and white light scanners and also new hardware that’s coming on stream. We then focus on what people use these tools for.
Our cover story features the work done by 3DEngineers in bringing classic vehicles back to life. We then look at how 3D scanning is benefitting the world of MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) in the aerospace world, how Otterbox is building new mobile phone cases quicker than ever, then round things off with a profile on the University of Sunderland and what it is doing for its students. Finally, we take a first look at the Noomeo 3D scanner, which combines structured/white light scanning with the portability of laser scanning.
We’ll be moving on to the world of Inspection and Quality next month, but in the meantime, we’re conducting some brief research into how people are using these tools, where they use them in the workflow and what their attitudes and knowledge about the subject are. To entice you further, we’re got a brand new shiny Apple iPad to give away in return for your thoughts on the subject we’re covering. So dive into the survey, give us your thoughts and we’ll add you to the list.
